Winthrop Congregational Church, United Church of Christ

No matter who you are, or where you are on life's journey, you are welcome here.

Church is different right now.

Well, everything is different right now. Those of us who can work from home, are working from home right. Those of us whose work outside of the home is deemed essential for the public good are still leaving our homes for work, taking extra precautions to keep ourselves, the public, and our families safe. Parents have suddenly become home school teachers. Teachers are becoming tech support. And, kids are missing their friends and significant life events now that school has shifted from the physical building to the internet.

In Maine, our state government has developed physical distancing protocols as a public health measure. Our church is deeply committed to caring for our neighbors as an expression of our Christian faith, so we are committed to following best practices for gathering right now. Which, for us means that we worship together on Sunday morning using Zoom and keeping connected during the week using phone calls, emails, and actual paper mail, written with all the prayers and love we can muster.

Need a prayer? Wanna come to Zoom church? Would you like to receive Sunday School lessons at home? Email us here.

Sermons and Devotionals

After Zoom worship, we share the sermons from our service in a couple places.
  • Our Sermon Blog has a text version for reading. We update this weekly:  www.wccucc.org/sermon-blog
  • Our YouTube channel has videos of many of our sermons: tinyurl.com/WCCsermonvideos
  • We also have some short videos of Psalms readings:   tinyurl.com/PsalmsInTheWoods
  • Sometimes we will put an audio recording of the sermon on Pastor Chrissy's Soundcloud:   soundcloud.com/chrissy-cataldo

Our Denomination is producing some helpful devotionals, too.
  • If you are grieving, this service about Ancestral Practices of Lamentation may help:   youtu.be/hR6UqutF1m8
  • Self-care in a Pandemic:   youtu.be/42pVSL27Sbw
  • Here is a free, 14-day devotional you can download from Pilgrim Press: tinyurl.com/awayinthewilderness

For Kids

We are working on compiling Sunday School lessons that kids can do independently during Zoom worship or that families can work on together on their own time. You will be able to find some of the lessons on the Christian Education Sunday School Blog.

We are also emailing out Sunday School lessons. Sign up to receive them on the right hand side of this page. Here are some recordings of the Bible reading that go along with each Sunday school lesson:  soundcloud.com/user-777225936

Also, our denomination has these recommendations for Faith Formation at home: youtu.be/0NuIL2hHWqM
